“Physical Activity Beyond the Classroom”

Introduction:

Imagine that you are currently an Athletic Trainer for the big time University within your town. You have been approached by 10 parents of students at the local middle and high school. They are interested in information regarding all the benefits that can be provided by various out-of-school sports. You are in charge of making sure these parents get the answers or your job will be in jeopardy.

Task:

·       The first 5 parents have provided you with specific sports that they want answers about, and asked for an explanation as to why they are beneficial sports.

·       These 5 sports that are required for everyone to research are: Football, Soccer, Golf, Basketball, Baseball.

·       The other 5 parents want you to recommend a good sport, explain why you chose that sport, and the benefits that sport can offer their child.

·       Your job is to do some online research in order to give the parents an educated response.

·       The first 5 sports have been provided and you are required to do research on these sports.

·       You are responsible for researching 5 different sports (of your choice) and providing the corresponding website where you received your information.

·       Type at least 1 paragraph (8-10 sentences) addressing the amount of cardiovascular fitness needed to perform in that sport, and also, if there is significant muscular fitness needed as well.

·       Record all websites used in a “resources” section at the bottom of your paper.

Process:

1.    Choose 5 sports of your own, have your list of 10 total sports to research in front of you.

2.  Go onto the Internet, find a website that corresponds with physical benefits needed to compete in that sport (ex. Website that discusses benefits of playing football). *Make sure the site has information on cardiovascular and muscular fitness.

3.  Based on your website information, type, using Microsoft Word, an 8-10 sentence paragraph discussing the benefits of the sport.

4.  Record your website in your “resources” section at the bottom of your Word document.

5.  Repeat this process with all 10 sports until you have a website and 1 typed paragraph for each.
