This webquest was developed at Shepherd University to give students an alternate outlet by which they can learn the basic aspects of one of the CSO’s for physical education.

The Students will be given five sports and five websites on each sport. They will have to read the site and write what the proper etiquette is for each one. Then the students will pick five different sports and find a website that explains the etiquette for the sports they choose.

Grade: HS Physical Education

Standard: PE.HS.5.03 practice proper procedures, demonstrate etiquette and fair play in physical activity settings.

This webquest was designed for physical education courses at all high school levels.  However, students in all courses could benefit from participating in this webquest as it deals with identifying the proper etiquette and fair play when participating in a sport.

Prior to the lesson, I am assuming the students know how to use a computer, along with accessing the Internet. The students will already have a basic knowledge of the sports that I require (Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Swimming, Soccer) I am also assuming that the students will have a general knowledge of five other sports in which they are required to research.

Process:

As a student athlete you compete against many different athletes, parents, coaches and referees. It is important to always show good sportsmanship and to represent your school well. It is even important to have proper sportsmanship when playing a pickup game with friends or kinds in your neighborhood or swimming laps at the public pool. The reason is so the game can go smoothly, every one can enjoy themselves, and no one gets hurt. Showing sportsmanship or just basic respect for the other participants allows for everyone to have fun and there to be no conflicts.

The assignment can be done on a home based computer or any school computer with approval by an administrator. Computer must have Internet access in order to complete the tasks. You have a week to complete this assignment out side of class.

Assessment/Evaluation:

My evaluation for this assignment will be based on the student’s research abilities, and their ability to analyze the information. Grading will be based on a scale, with 5 being the highest possible number of points given in each of the 4 sections (website used, written paragraph, synthesis of information from website, grammar/organization). The evaluation chart will be as follows:
