Where Do You Stand?

 

Introduction:  
 

THIS WEBQUEST WAS DEVELOPED FOR STUDENTS SO THEY CAN SEE WHERE THEY STAND ON A NATIONAL FITNESS LEVEL. THE GOAL IS TO HOPEFULLY MOTIVATE THE STUDENTS, SO THAT THEY WILL REALIZE THE NEED TO BECOME PHYSICALLY ACTIVE.

LESSON:
1) STUDENTS ARE GOING TO GO TO DIFFERENT WEBSITES AND LOOK UP THE DEFINITION FOR THE 5 FITNESS COMPONENTS.

2) STUDENTS HAVE PREVIOUSLY ALREADY TAKEN THE NATIONAL FITNESSGRAM.

3) STUDENTS WILL GET THE RESULTS FROM THERE FITNESSGRAM SCORES AND MAKE A GRAPH.

4) STUDENTS WILL TAKE THE RESULTS FROM THERE SCORES AND THEN RELATE THEM TO THE COMPONENTS THAT THEY LOOKED UP EARLIER. BY COMPARING THEIR RESULTS TO THEIR RESEARCH THEY ARE TO TELL WHAT AREAS THEY NEED TO WORK ON.

5) STUDENTS WILL COME UP WITH A WORKOUT PLAN TO HELP IMPROVE THEIR SCORES AND THEIR OVERALL PHYSICAL FITNESS.

CURRICULUM STANDARDS AND OBJECTIVES:

PE.HS.4.02- interpret and compare personal fitness related to the five components of fitness: cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility.

 

Task:  
 

FOR THIS WEBQUEST THE TARGET STUDENTS ARE PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL SETTING. THIS WEBQUEST INVOLVES BOTH COMPUTER RESEARCH AND PERSONAL RESEARCH.
STUDENTS WILL NEED TO HAVE COMPLETED THE FITNESSGRAM IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THIS WEBQUEST. STUDENTS WILL DO RESEARCH WHICH WILL PROVIDE THEM WITH THE INFORMATION THEY NEED TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT.

 

Process:  
 

STUDENTS WILL GO TO THE WEBSITES PROVIDED TO LOOK UP WHAT THE FIVE FITNESS COMPONENTS ARE. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO COPY DIRECTLY FROM THE SITE. STUDENTS ARE TO PUT ALL DEFINITIONS INTO THEIR OWN WORDS.

HAVE THE STUDENTS RESULTS FROM THE FITNESSGRAM AVAILABLE. WITH THE INFORMATION THE STUDENTS WILL MAKE A GRAPH USING THE COMPUTER OR THEY MAY USE OTHER WAYS TO ALLOW FOR CREATIVITY. STUDENTS ARE TO IDENTIFY WHAT AREAS ARE OF CONCERN BY COMPARING THEIR RESULTS TO WHAT THE NATIONAL STANDARDS ARE AND ALSO THE DEFINITION OF THE 5 COMPONENTS. STUDENTS WILL COME UP WITH A 6 WEEK WORKOUT PROGRAM TO HELP IMPROVE THEIR OVERALL FITNESS.

STUDENTS WILL HAVE 3 DAYS TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT. STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN 3 DAYS IN THE COMPUTER LAB DURING SCHOOL AND WILL BE EXPECTED TO WORK ON IT AT HOME AS WELL. STUDENTS WILL WORK INDIVIDUALLY ON THIS PROJECT.
