Standard PE.8.5.02 :
Discuss situations that may
lead to conflict and practice mediation skills (e.g., compromise, “I”
messages).
This lesson is very important to help assist those
students who are not able to attend the classroom.
This lesson will help students understand conflicts,
create a brainstorm of possible solutions, and then finally decide a
solution.
The Task:
This lesson is designed for 8th grade physical
education classes and involves the social interaction between students. It will help promote conflict
resolution.
The students will not need too much information
before attempting this lesson. It will
help the students to better understand the lesson, but it won’t hurt the
students.
Resources:
The students may need a pen and paper to help write down their
ideas.
Process:
This lesson is about conflict resolution, and you will be asked to read a
certain situation, assess the problem, find as many solutions as possible, and
pick the best fit solution for the problem. Finally, you will be asked to
create a three paragraph essay about a situation in which conflict resolution
help solved a problem in your life. The
essay must be in complete sentences and contain correct grammar.
The
lesson is organized through the internet, and it only involves one class. The students will work individually in their
home based computers or the school computer lab.
Assessment/Evaluation:
I
will be using a point system to assess the students’ work. The students are to write an essay for their
own conflict resolution problems. There
will be three areas in which I will be looking at for their overall lesson. I will grade on grammar, synthesis of
information, and the three paragraph essay. The highest each student can gain
in the three categories is a five.
