Whitney Elizabeth Houston

Whitney Elizabeth Houston born August 9, 1963; departed this earth February 11, 2012. Whitney was an African American recording artist, singer, actress, producer, and model. She belongs to a musical family, Her mom Cissy Houston is a succesful Gospel Singer, Her cousin legendary soul singer Dionne Warwick also broke barriers in the R&B cateorgory and her godmother is the legendary Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. Before she became a world wide musician she she started out as a model with the magazine "seventeen" in the early 1980’s. Although, she 's a beauty the modeling life wasn't her lifestyle. So, she became the world's "Greatest" musician of all time. In 2009, Guinness World Records cited her as the most awarded female of all time. She's one of the world's best-selling musicians of all time; Selling over 200 million records worldwide. She's released six studio albums (Whitney Houston, Whitney, I'm Your Baby Tonight, My Love Is Your Love, Just Whitney, & I Look To You) one holiday album (Whitney Houston: One Wish Holiday Album) and three movie soundtrack albums (The Bodyguard OST, Waiting To Exhale Ost, & The Preacher's Wife OST); which all have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum or gold certification. The "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" singer has influenced several African American artists to follow in her footsteps; Artist like Brandy, Jennifer Hudson, Monica and many young up and coming female artist have said they've dreamed about being the "Next Whitney Houston" or given her credit for their career.

Whitney formely and still known as "The Voice" is and remains the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. She's the second artist behind Elton John and the ONLY WOMAN to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards. Her 1985 debut album "Whitney Houston" became the BEST-SELLING debut album by A WOMAN in HISTORY. Her second studio album Whitney (1987) became the FIRST album by a woman to DEBUT at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

The hollywood Princess...first acting role was the film; The Bodyguard along with Kevin Costner. The debut in 1992. The film's original soundtrack won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Its lead single "I Will Always Love You," became the BEST-SELLING single by a WOMAN IN MUSIC HISTORY. With the album, Houston became the FIRST artist (solo or group, male or female) to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period. The album makes her the TOP FEMALE act in the top 10 list of the best-selling albums of all time, at number four. Houston continued to star in different films and contribute to their soundtracks as well. Her voice appeared on The Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack(1995) with three hits (Exhale, Why Does it Hurt So Bad & Count on Me) and The Preacher's Wife soundtrack (1996). The Preacher's Wife soundtrack became the BEST-SELLING GOSPEL ALBUM IN HISTORY

Whitney later left the music scene to raise her one and only child (Bobbi Kristina Brown) with her ex- Husband Bobby Brown. She later made a comeback in 2009 with the return of her 10th studio album (I Look to You) with hits like "Million Dollar Bill", "I Look To You" and "I Didn't Know My Own Strength". Three years later On February 11, 2012, Houston was found dead in her room at The Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, California. Reports say that she had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors. She was only 48 years old. May she continue to rest in peace.
