The Lord of the Rings:

The Fellowship of the Ring

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a compelling story of the battle between good and evil, set in a land of enchantment called, Middle Earth. J. R. R. Tolkien worked very hard to create a world so real that it could pass as our own in a time long forgotten. The first book of the trilogy, “The Fellowship of the Ring”, sets the stage for the story that involves the defeating of evil by destroying a ring that is their key to victory. It is ironic that in this tale of high adventure that such a monumental task would fall into the hands of some the smallest and most overlooked people on Middle Earth, the Hobbits. One in-particular is given the job of “Ringbearer”, Frodo Baggins the nephew of Bilbo Baggins the hobbit who first recovered the ring.

Our story begins in the Third Age of Middle Earth when for many centuries the dark lord Sauron has been vanquished and his ring of power lost. The Shire, the ancestral home of the hobbits and present residence of the ring and its bearer, Bilbo is visited one day by Gandalf, a long time friend of Bilbo’s. After a birthday celebration in Bilbo’s honor, Bilbo leaves for placed faraway and distant to write the end of his book. The ring is then left in the care of his nephew Frodo, who is visited some years latter by Gandalf. Gandalf tells Frodo of the rings origin and that it must be taken to Elrond, a powerful elf king to decide its fate.

Frodo begins his quest with the help of some of his hobbit friends and travels tothe land of Rivendel, the kingdom of Elrond. Along the way Frodo meets people who will help him on his quest and eventually makes it to Rivendel where it is decided to destroy the ring in the Cracks of Doom. A fellowship of nine is formed to help Frodo on his quest and after many trials and many being lost the fellowship eventually is dis-banded except for three. But Frodo will travel alone to the Cracks of Doom to destroy the ring.
