Drones are male honey bees that are the product of an unfertilized egg. Unlike the worker bee, drones don't have a stinger to participate in nectar and pollen gathering since a stinger is an egg laying organ. The role of a worker bee is to mate with a fetile queen in a hive. Drones only live up to 90 days because they die after mating and are driven out of the hive in winter to make room for the hatching eggs.
