Washington, DC

Our nation's capital was chosen by the George Washington, and during the War of 1812 many of its buildings were damaged and needed repaired (these buildings include the White House and the United states Capitol Building). Slavery was abolished in 1862 but it remained racially segregated until 1950. The U Street Corridor (collection of shops, nightclubs, galleries and residences along a 9 block stretch) was an important part of African American culture at this time.
That's not all you'll get to see. This will probably be your best bet for a lot of sightseeing anywhere along Route 50. Come to Washington, DC and see all of the famous monuments (Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial) war memorials, and Smithsonians. You can walk along Pennsylvania Avenue and take a look at Barak Obama’s new place of residence come January. If you didn’t catch that, I meant the White House. There’s so much to see in this city so take a few days to see it all.
Are you up for a concert or sporting event? You should check out the Verizon Center’s schedule to see if there are any events you must see. Shopping around the Verizon Center is amazing too. There are tons of stores with all kinds of discounts. Guys, your woman will be overjoyed. And the food in the area is delicious. I went to a French restaurant when I was there a year ago and it was amazing. Below are some links that I would suggest you look at when deciding to tour DC.
