In Illinois Carlyle Lake was created to control frequent flooding along the Kalkaska River. This 26,000 acre lake lets you enjoy camping, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing and hunting. So, no matter what outdoorsy event fits you, Carlyle Lake has it. It is known very well by sailors as one of the most challenging lakes for sailboats. The lake was host to the 1994 Olympic Festival Sailing Competition and there are sailing competitions every weekend during the summer.
