Purpose/Task of Webquest:

The purpose of this webquest was to allow the children to explore different websites, view a movie and film strip, and read a book to educate them on their bodies and functions of some basic body parts. Also to show the difference between healthy and not so healthy foods, by learning basic nutrition. After learning body parts and functions the children are to pair with a partner and trace each other. This is followed by drawing and labeling a list of required body parts on the traced figure. Over the weekend students are to keep a journal of the foods they ate and activities participated in during the weekend. On Monday they are to share their journal in small groups.
General Impression:
I felt that this webquest was great but should be directed towards an older age group. The designer had this webquest for grades second through third that were studying health. I feel that it should have been at least directed towards fourth graders because it had many steps and was very in depth. The webquest lasted seven days and I feel that seven days is a long time for second graders to be doing the same project without losing interest. It also had lots of misspelled words. But, the content of the webquest was great, lots of beneficial activities and learning involved. It really explored the body, health, and nutrition.
Recommendations for incorporating in the elementary classroom:
I think it would be great for a classroom teacher to break the tasks apart and do one lesson on body parts and functions, but instead of the children tracing each other have a smaller scale, less space taking skeleton and have the children draw and label body parts and functions. Then in a other lesson explain health and nutrition and why it is so important from a health stand point and should be a life long habit, and have the children write in a journal.
