CRYPTOZOOLOGY The Study of Hidden Animals.
|
|
What is Cryptozoology? The term Cryptozoology was coined by Dr. Bernard Heuvelmans. Crypto comes from the Greek word kryptos, which means hidden or unknown, and zoology refers to the study of animals. Cryptozoologists study evidence that suggests that there may be a living animal that is not yet recognized by science. Their evidence is gathered by investigating reported sightings or by thouroughly exploring sites where a cryptid, or unknown animal, is said to inhabit. Cryptozoology is seldom taken seriously because of it's association with creatures such as the Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster. However Crytptozoologists investigate other more common creatures too. A Cryptozoologist might investigate a report of a common animal that was said to be an unnatural color, or they may investigate a report of an animal that was seen hundreds or thousands of miles from it's natural habitat (Coleman, www.lorencoleman.com/what_is_cryptozoology.html).
