PROJECT DESCRIPTION :

(Mathematics Enhanced Through Teacher Support) program works on enhancement of mathematics for teachers in grades 6-13.  Jefferson and Berkeley counties, Shepherd University and RESA VIII created a partnership for mathematics training that meets teachers’ instructional needs.  These needs address student achievement through a combination of Dynamic Classroom Assessment (DCA), the College Board’s (CB) AP Vertical Team Training, and the 21st Century Classroom Technology Bundle (CCTB). This year we plan on a number of workshops focused on study of geometry in mathematics by using latest technology to enhance and improve in and around classroom activities. The emphasis is not only on using technology but also on building conceptual understanding and developing problem solving skills of geometry.

WORKSHOPS OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the workshops, successful students and teachers will be able to

1.            Use sketchpad and other Dynamic Geometry Softwares

2.            Use certain graphical calculators, smartboard and other graphical tools

3.            Develop an understanding of geometry in nature and Art. In addition, the following will be the specific objectives in geometry

a.        Geometrical Reasoning

b.       Properties of Triangles, Polygons, and Circle

c.        Transformations and Tessellations

d.       Area, volume

e.        The Pythagorean Theorem

f.         Similarity

g.       Mathematical systems

h.       Relationship between algebra and trigonometry

4.            Research to improve curriculum development, assessment development, classroom technology development.

Workshop will covers almost all the chapters from the following textbook:

TEXTBOOKS:     Michael Serra; Discovering Geometry: An Investigative Approach, 4th edition Key Curriculum Press, 2008

ASSESSMENT:   RESEARCH

                                WORKSHOP WORK

                                ASSESSMENT TESTS

ATTENDANCE: In accordance with the workshop setting.
