Course Description
An integration of
the material covered in previous programming and systems courses. An
examination of modern management information systems in a business setting.
Topics include structured decision systems, decision support systems,
information systems acquisition and management, database management
systems, and the role of information processing systems in business
decisions.

Homework
Assignments and Exams
Homework
assignments provide chances to practice and review concepts discussed in
class. Be sure to do the assignments in order to get yourself ready for
exams.
There will be 1 midterm,
1 final exam, a
number of homework and project assignments.
Weight: Midterm 30%, Final 30%, Homework and Project Assignments 20%,
Term Paper 20%.
Final Exam Time: 6pm ~ 8pm, Thursday, April 26,
2012.
Late policy:
Assignments turned in late may suffer a late penalty (up to 10% per day).
But it is always better to turn them in late rather than never at all.
Grading Scale:
100 - 90 A, 89 - 80 B, 79 - 70 C, 69 - 60 D, 59 - 0 F. For borderline
cases, other things will be taken into consideration such as class
participation and the final exam.
Distance Learning
Some
sessions of this class may be conducted online. Please check SAKAI

Term
Paper (team based)
The
goal for this team based term paper assignment is for everybody in this
class to have a chance to work on a subject altogether. Every team will
have 2 or 3 students. You are free to choose your teammates. One team
member has to be assigned as the team leader. Team leaders have to ensure
every team members get involved in the project.
Each team will work on a subject in IT area. The subject could be anything
related to management information system. You will have to write a report
on this subject as a team and present your search/research result to the
class. The report must be at least of five pages, single spaced, with no
less than four references in the end of the report. We will schedule two
presentations for each team, one for the progress and one for the final
result. Each team presentation will be about 15 minutes including question
and answer part. PowerPoint Slides are required for team presentations.
Attendance
You
are expected to attend class and to arrive on time. Class attendance is
important since some material will be covered that is not in the textbook.
Should you miss class, you are responsible for completing any missed work
before the next class. This is important since class exercises will often
build on each other. Extra credits (up to 5 points) may be given to good
attendance and active participation.
Comments
Any
work that you do for this class is to be on your own. Any violation means
that the work will not be accepted and further action will be taken.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
It
is up to the student to make up any missed material. Make-ups will only be
given in the case of an excused absence or a documented, valid emergency. I
encourage you to contact me if an emergency arises. You must contact me to
schedule a make up exam before the next regularly
scheduled class meeting following the missed exam. I reserve the right to
give a different exam for makeup than the one administered to the class.

contact the instructor at the beginning of the semester or when given an
assignment for which an accommodation is required.
Cell Phone and Text Messaging Policy
Use
of Cellular phones is not permitted during class.
Please turn your cell phone off or put it onto silent (in case of an
emergency situation) before class starts. Do not place your cell phone on
the desk. Any student leaving during class to answer a vibrating phone will
not be permitted to return to class.
Text messaging is not permitted during class.
Students
in Athletics
It
is your responsibility to provide me with a letter signed by your coach
listing all of the days in which you will be absent. Accommodations will be
made only if I receive the letter from your coach no later than the end of
the first week of class.
Plagiarism
and Cheating
I
consider academic honesty to be at the core of the University's activities
in education and research. All work (i.e., assignments, quizzes, and exams)
submitted for a grade must be the sole work of the individual student
turning it in. Instances of plagiarism, cheating, or other misconduct will
be dealt with strictly and according to the University’s Policy and
