COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course explores the fundamental ideas of
planar and spatial geometry. Content includes the analysis and classification
of geometric figures; the study of geometry transformations; the concepts of
tessellation, symmetry, congruence, and similarity; connection of geometry to
other mathematical topics and to nature and art; and an overview of
measurement. The course also includes an introduction to the use of computers
in the teaching and learning of informal geometry.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of the course, successful students will be able to learn
1. how does one know where to begin and how to proceed the problems
2. which approach is more promising, and why?
3. different solutions are possible, and how do they compare?
4. In-depth discussion of Constructions
5. Trigonometry.
6. Introduction to Transformation Groups.
7. Through Introduction to Complex Numbers.
Course will covers at least the following chapters.
Ch. 0 Prologue
Ch. 2 Circles
