Acorn Barnacles (Balanomorpha)

Barnacles live in the highest of the inter-tidal zones in cone like shells. Believe it or not Barnacles are crustaceans (e.g. lobsters, crabs, and shrimp). In their larval stage they are members of the zooplankton and look like tiny shrimp. The glue is used to attach themselves to a surface is so strong that the shells hang around long after the Barnacles have died. Dentists are interested in this glue for possible applications in their field.
