Ghost Crab (Ocypode quadrata)

Ghost Crabs spend their days hiding in burrows along the shoreline with the youngest living closest to the water. They come out of their hiding places at night to feed. Their large eyes are sensitive to light intensity changes. Ghost Crabs can sometimes be heard while walking the beach. They make a bubble noise, a digging sound, and a rapping sound with their claw.
