Morone americana is indigenous to the Chesapeake Bay as well as much of the northeastern coastline of the United States. White perch also exist in other parts of the nation, however they have been imported to those locations. The white perch is related to the hybrid white bass, white bass, yellow bass, and striped bass. Common nicknames for this fish include silver perch and silver bass. White perch are usually yellow to goldish above, fading to white on flanks and belly. They have a complete lateral line but no stripe. Further identification of white perch can be facilitated by observing the depression between the eyes and the presence of teeth in their mouths but not their tongues. These fish run in dense schools near the surface of the water where they feed.
