Life on Two Wheels

Places to ride

More like, where are the places not to ride? Northern Virginia has so many miles of country roads to ride on. So does the eastern panhandle of West Virginia or as we like to call it, “West by God”.

I prefer a nice long country road, the less traffic the better because that is one less obstacle to be on guard for. Roads that I try to avoid like the plague are, Rt. 9 to Leesburg, 66, 81, 28 and the Capital Beltway. I have ridden on the beltway at night and I don’t think that I have ever been more scared.

In my opinion, the two most important obstacles to be on the watch for are other drivers and deer. I have hit two deer in my cage on two different occasions. One of those occasions happened in the middle of Leesburg Virginia.

When we have the chance, my wife and I like to take the bike out on country roads that we have never been on before and just get lost. Of course she is an excellent navigator with her GPS giving me directions on how to get back to the main vein.
