After graduating from Bowdoin College, Alan Tinkler spent a couple of years working as a commercial loan officer in Boston before venturing to Papua New Guinea for a two year tour of duty as a Peace Corps volunteer. While in the Pacific he traveled to Australia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Alan Tinkler received an M.A. in English from Oklahoma State University. While in Stillwater, he volunteered as a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters. He was also a member of the board, serving terms as treasurer, assistant vice president, and president. He received his Ph.D. in English (with a concentration in Creative Writing) from the University of Denver. His dissertation, Malaria Journal, is a novel loosely based on his experience in Papua New Guinea. He is currently working on another novel, Perhaps the Last Survivor. His work has appeared in The Review of Contemporary Fiction, Rain Taxi, Beloit Fiction Journal, Fiction International, and Post Road. He is an Senior Editor of Conjunctions, a literary journal edited by Bradford Morrow and published by Bard College. |
