vexed, or shake hands with a fool
Ladders
It is unlucky to walk under a ladder. If a person must walk
underneath a ladder they should do one of the following:
Cross the fingers until a dog is seen.
Spit three times through the rungs or over the
left shoulder
Spit on the shoe and do not look back until the
spit has dried
Be silent until a four legged animal is seen
Human Moles
Moles are intended to tell the future depending on where the
mole is located. Often, moles on the right side of the body
are fortunate and the ones on the left side are unfortunate.

Salt
It was once believed that a prayer said near salt would be
answered. Also, if parents brought a plateful of salt to the
baby’s baptism, it was thought that the child would
certainly go to heaven. It was even said that when people
moved into a new house they should take in a box of coal and
a plate of salt before anything else to be prosperous. It is
considered very unlucky to borrow salt and even more unlucky
to return it. It a person spill salt it should not be
cleaned up until the person throws salt over his back three
times to avoid misfortune.
