Course Description:  SPAN 401 Survey in Spanish II: Hispanic Drama
 This course is a study of drama in Spain and Latin America from its beginnings to the contemporary period, with representative readings.  Prerequisites: SPAN 310 or 311 or 312 or 313.

 

Prerequisites: Spanish 301 & 302

Learning:
    Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information,

        audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
    Standard 2.2 Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between
        the products and perspectives of Hispanic culture.
    Standard 3.1 Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines
        through Spanish.
    Standard 3.2 Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive
        viewpoints that are only available through the Spanish language and its cultures.
    Standard 4.2 Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture
        through comparisons between Hispanic cultures and their own.
    Standard 5.2 Students show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using
        Spanish for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions regarding Hispanic drama on its theoretical and practical applications.
Students understand and interpret spoken and written Spanish on a variety of topics.
Students present information, concepts, and ideas in Spanish to an audience of listeners
or readers on a variety of topics.
Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and the perspectives of Hispanic language and culture as expressed through dramatic works.
Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the products and
perspectives of Hispanic cultures.
Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the Spanish language and its culture.
Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons
between Hispanic cultures and their own.

                        30% Midterm and Final

                        30% written assignments (films, compositions)

                        30% Participation in class, conversation

                        10% Presentations

Attendance:    Successful progress in a language course requires that students keep up with assigned material and attend class regularly.  In Spanish 401 you are permitted two absences, excused or unexcused.  For each absence beyond two, two points will be deducted from the final grade point average.  You are expected to be punctual and three tardys
(or early departures) count as one absence.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out specific assignments from fellow classmates and return prepared to class.
