Gandydancer. Gandydancer. (Jim Martin Productions, 2001): CD. Traditional WV string band music by some of the most accomplished old-time musicians around including Gerry Milnes, Dave Bing, Mark Payne, Ron Mullenex, and Jim Martin.

Good Songs for Hard Times. Ginny Hawker and Tracy Schwarz. (Copper Creek Records, 2000): CD. A truly great duo album with awesome vocal harmonies.

Green Are the Woods: Traditional Ballads and Songs from WV (Helena Tripplett 1999): CD with good reference notes. Nice examples of unaccompanied singing.

The Hammons Family: A Study of a West Virginia Family's Traditions, Ed. Carl Fleischhauer and Alan Jabbour (Archive of Folk Song, Library of Congress, 1973): two-CD set, outstanding liner notes. Exceptional collection. Good example of ethnographic field work.

The Edden Hammons Collection: Volume One (WVU Press, 1999): CD with excellent liner notes. All WV fiddle tunes. Good sequel to the recording above.

Front Porch Blues, John Jackson.  (Alligator Records, 1999): CD.  Traditional Piedmont and country blues by the late legendary Virginia blues master.  Good bio of the artist and liner notes.

Gauley Mountain: A History in Verse.  Poems by Louise McNeill.  WV Public Radio and Pocohontas Communications Cooperative, 1991.  The epic poem Gauley Mountain is brought to life in music and words by some of the finest WV poets, actors, singers, and musicians in a WV Public Radio production.  A rare gem with great supplemental materials including a teacher’s guide.

Goin’ Back: Old-Time Tunes and Songs of West Virginia.  Reed Island Rounders (Burning Wolf Records, 2003): CD.  Very good liner notes and the most traditional music from WV by this talented trio.

Hannah at the Springhouse, Melvin Wine (Marimac, 1989): tape, good liner notes. National Heritage Award recipient Melvin Wine plays WV fiddle tunes.

Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard (Rounder 1998): CD, a classic from these pioneering women of bluegrass.

Heart of a Singer, Hazel Dickens, Ginny Hawker, and Carol Elizabeth Jones (Rounder, 1998): CD, great liner notes. Nice mix of traditional and early bluegrass tunes from three fabulous singers.
