BRITISH ROMANTIC LITERATURE CRITICAL PAPER

Due Date: 11-20-08

♦Choose from one of the works below or from teacher-approved selection of Romantic literature,

and develop a 6-8 page critical response (conference-paper length).  Focus in your paper on any

original motif, theme, or idea that strikes you as you read.  Read critically and creatively, marking passages you might later wish to use (motifs, symbols, elements of style, any pertinent or interesting details that might serve your eventual thesis).  Remember to assert, illustrate, and analyze as you develop the essay.  You are encouraged to consult critical sources to enhance and justify your assertions about the work (see MLA on-line bibliography--at least one source must come from the MLA electronic bibliography).  Be sure to GIVE CREDIT AND CITE SOURCE WHEN YOU BORROW IDEAS OR WORDS.  If you use another's words or ideas without making the proper citation, you have plagiarized, and the grade on the paper will be a 0--possibly you will fail the course.

Your grade will be determined by the quality and originality of your ideas and by the clarity and quality of your expression of those ideas (i.e. writing style and mechanics).
