CD cover: Women Composers

Dr. Diane Peacock Jezic wrote this book drawing upon material from 15 of Leonarda's earlier LP releases (some of which are now on CD) and from a 1975 recording on the Gemini Hall label. The book's first edition was winner of the 1989 Pauline Alderman Prizeby the International Congress on Women and Music. The author, a pianist and music historian, held a doctorate in musical art and taught music literature at Towson State University until her death in 1989. The second edition was prepared by Dr. Elizabeth Wood.

Each Chapter of the book features one composer, providing an introduction to her life and an analysis of her music, as well as a checklist of her works, a bibliography, and a discography, providing the needed tools for the integration of this data into existing courses and the creation of new courses that focus on women. Jezic discusses each composer in the context of traditional music history and analyzes the conditions required for women to compose and for their works to survive.
